This Term we are going to be moving through the book of Titus. We will be looking at what it is to lose ourselves and gain Christ - to become self-forgetful and God centered. To dwell on the fact that there is much more to life than living for ourselves.
This is a powerful book of the Bible. It was a letter written by Paul to a guy named Titus. Paul had previously placed Titus as head over the church in Crete to straighten a couple of things out. You see, the people of Crete had a history of being liars, brutes and gluttons - even one of their own had said it of them! They even liked to spin a dollar or two off religion - they previously made up that the tomb of Zeus was on the island in order to gain some tourist dollars.
The result? The young church there was being lead astray by the Cretan culture and by false teachers. Cretan followers of Jesus may have gone to Church every week and claimed to believe in Jesus, but their lives were looking very different. So Paul exhorts Titus to teach and lead the church towards living radical God-centered lives. How does this all happen? We will find out that it doesn't all happen by effort or religious fervour, but rather, when we accept Jesus, when we really get the truth of the cross and accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour - the grace of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit enable us to start living amazing and crazy Christ-like lives.
This term is going to be off the hook. It's been a couple of years in the making, and I'm very excited. Come each week ready to hear what God is speaking to YOU through His Word.
